Switching to Posty: the move, step by step

Switching to Posty is a manual move: Posty does not import posts, drafts, media or reports from other tools. Most of the work is creating workspaces, connecting accounts and recreating the posts still waiting to go out. This guide does it in an order that never publishes a post twice.

Platform and vendor facts checked on 27 October 2026.

Step 1: Take stock of what is in your current tool

List what has to move: posts scheduled from today onwards, drafts you want to keep, media you reuse, and the reports you send. Published posts live on the networks, so they do not need to move to stay live.

Check your current tool’s export options and its renewal date, so the move finishes before the next bill.

Step 2: Create one workspace per brand or client

Set up one space per brand or client before you connect anything, so every account lands in the right place the first time.

Set each one’s timezone to the brand’s or client’s own, so posts go out at the local time you planned.

Step 3: Connect the social accounts

Connect each social account through the network’s own sign-in. Leave the accounts connected to the old tool for now; networks allow both.

If a client owns the accounts, ask them to connect rather than sending you a password.

Step 4: Invite the team and set up sign-off

Invite the people who work on each brand with the access they need, and set up sign-off before any post moves, so recreated posts go through the same review as before.

Invite clients last, once their workspace holds what they should see.

Step 5: Recreate scheduled posts, soonest first

Work through the old tool’s queue from the soonest post onwards. Recreate each post, upload its media, set the same time, and delete it from the old tool straight away, so it is never scheduled in both.

Move the next two weeks first. Once they are safe, move the rest in batches.

Step 6: Run one week in Posty, then cancel the old tool

Run a full week with everything publishing from Posty and nothing left in the old tool’s queue. Check each post went out, and that replies and reports work the way you need.

Then disconnect your accounts from the old tool and cancel before its renewal date.

Notes for the tool you are leaving

From Hootsuite
Hootsuite bills every user and keeps approvals for Advanced. In Posty, invite people to the workspaces they work on: they come with the workspace price, up to 10 on Growth and unlimited on Accelerate. Posts for X stay in another tool. Posty vs Hootsuite
From Buffer
Buffer bills per channel and sets clients up as Buffer users on Team. In Posty, each client gets a workspace and approves there with client visibility. Posty’s inbox also takes direct messages on Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky. Buffer alternatives
From Planable
Planable workspaces map one to one onto Posty workspaces. Posty has no monthly post limit, and the inbox and analytics are included rather than add-ons. Posts for X or Google Business Profile stay in another tool. Posty vs Planable
From Sprout Social
Sprout Social’s external approvers sign off from an email link, up to three on Advanced. In Posty, clients join their workspace as approvers with client visibility and count towards its people. Sprout Social alternatives
What does not move
Posts for X, WhatsApp or Google Business Profile, which Posty does not publish to, and reports built in the old tool. Export any report you still need before you cancel.

Questions and answers

Can Posty import my posts from another tool?
No. Posty has no importer for posts, drafts, media or reports from other tools, so scheduled posts are recreated by hand. Posts already published stay on each network, and Posty reads their results from the networks once the accounts are connected.
Will switching affect posts already published?
No. Published posts live on the networks, not in your scheduling tool, so they stay where they are. Only posts still scheduled in your old tool need to move.
Can I run Posty and my old tool side by side?
Yes, and it is the safest way to switch. Connect the same accounts to Posty, move scheduled posts across week by week, and delete each one from the old tool as you recreate it, so nothing publishes twice.
Do I need to disconnect my accounts from the old tool first?
Not to start using Posty. Networks let an account connect to more than one tool. Disconnect it from the old tool once nothing is scheduled there, so it cannot publish by mistake.
How long does switching to Posty take?
It depends mostly on how many posts are scheduled ahead. Workspaces, accounts and invitations are quick; recreating scheduled posts is the bulk of the work, so move the next two weeks first and the rest in batches.
