Why Instagram carousels crop mixed photos
A carousel is one post, and Instagram gives its slides one frame. The first slide sets the shape and the rest are cropped to match. Put a landscape photo after a portrait one and its sides are cut off; put a portrait after a landscape and it loses its top and bottom. That is the usual reason a carousel looks uneven.
The Instagram app has added options for keeping mixed shapes in one carousel, but anything outside 4:5 to 1.91:1 is still cropped, and the publishing API that scheduling tools use crops every slide to the first. The dependable fix is to give every slide the same shape before you post.
This tool fits every photo into one frame without cutting anything. 4:5 portrait at 1080 by 1350 pixels is the usual choice: it fills the most screen, and landscape shots sit across the middle with background above and below. Square is a balanced middle ground. Landscape at 1.91:1 suits a set that is mostly wide shots.

- Why is my Instagram carousel not lining up?
- The slides are different shapes, so Instagram cropped them to match the first one. Subjects near the edges get cut and the set looks uneven. Fitting every slide to one frame here before you post fixes it.
- How many photos can an Instagram carousel have?

- Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
