YouTube limitations
YouTube uploads through the API follow the same rules as Studio: strict title and description constraints, verification-dependent video length, and automatic Shorts classification.
Publishing limits
The limits YouTube applies to posts published through its official API. Posty checks every one of these while you compose.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Title | 100 characters, no angle brackets |
| Description | 5,000 bytes, no angle brackets Measured in bytes - emoji and non-Latin characters count as more than one. |
| Video size & length | up to 256.0 GB or 12 hours |
| Unverified channels | videos over 15 minutes are rejected Verify a phone number with YouTube to lift the cap. |
| Shorts | square or vertical video up to 3 minutes YouTube classifies Shorts automatically - there is no flag to set. |
Rows marked Posty are current Posty product choices rather than hard platform rules.
Analytics
Views, likes, comments, watch time, average view duration, retention curves and subscriber counts.
- YouTube analytics lag 2–3 days for most metrics.
- Thumbnail impressions and click-through rate are Studio-only - no third-party tool can read them.
- Public subscriber counts are rounded down to 3 significant figures by YouTube.
Inbox & messaging
Video comments are supported; YouTube has no DM system.
- Comment replies are one level deep - YouTube's data model has no reply-to-a-reply.
Good to know
- Available video categories depend on the channel's region.
- Uploaders can disable comments per video, which also blocks tools from replying.
These limits apply to every tool
They come from YouTube's official API, so no scheduler can exceed them. Posty validates against every limit on this page while you compose - if your post passes, YouTube will accept it.
