Connect Bluesky to Postyno app password needed
Posty connects with Bluesky’s own sign-in. You approve Posty on Bluesky’s screen, so there is no app password to create or paste, and Posty never sees your Bluesky password.
- What you need
- Your Bluesky account
- Where you sign in
- Bluesky’s own sign-in screen
- How long it lasts
- Until Bluesky ends the sign-in; then you reconnect
Before you connect Bluesky
Have these ready and the connection takes a couple of minutes.
- The account you post from
- Posty connects the account that approves the request and shows it by its display name and @handle.
- A Posty plan that includes channels
- Free includes Link in Bio only. Starter connects up to 10 channels per workspace; Growth and Accelerate have no channel limit. You can try any paid plan for 7 days, once per team: the trial needs a card and bills automatically unless you cancel.
- A role that can connect channels
- Only roles with permission to connect channels see the Bluesky tile on Channels. Roles and permissions
What Posty asks Bluesky for
You approve one request on Bluesky’s screen, from an app called Posty. It covers:
- Your account
- General access to the account, so Posty can publish posts, read replies and show your profile.
- Direct messages
- Access to Bluesky chat, so your DMs reach the Posty inbox alongside replies.
- No app password
- Some tools ask you to create an app password in Bluesky’s settings and paste it in. Posty uses Bluesky’s sign-in instead, so you never copy a password anywhere.
If you decline on Bluesky’s screen, nothing is connected and Posty shows “Failed to connect Bluesky: access_denied”.
Connect Bluesky step by step
- 1
Open Channels and choose Bluesky
In your workspace, open Channels and select the Bluesky tile under Connect a channel. Posty opens Bluesky in a small window, or in the whole tab if your browser blocks pop-ups.
- BlueskyConnect account
The Bluesky tile on the Channels page, which reads: Connect account - 2
Sign in to Bluesky and approve Posty
Sign in on Bluesky’s screen as the account you post from and approve the request. Finish within 10 minutes, or the attempt expires and you start again.
- 3
Let the window close
Bluesky sends you back, the window closes and the account is connected. There is nothing to pick in Posty.
Check it worked
When it works, Posty shows
“Bluesky connected successfully!”
The account appears under Connected channels with its display name and @handle. Select the status icon on the card: a green check and Connected mean it is ready to publish.

Connected
The Harbour Bakery Bluesky account is fully connected.
Reconnect Bluesky
Bluesky limits how long an app like Posty stays signed in, so expect to reconnect from time to time. When that happens the card shows Stopped working.
Select Reconnect and sign in as the same account. Posty updates the existing channel instead of adding another.

Fix common Bluesky connection errors
Each message below is what Posty shows, followed by what to do about it.
- “Failed to connect Bluesky: access_denied”
- The request was declined on Bluesky’s screen. Start again from the Bluesky tile and approve Posty.
- “Failed to connect Bluesky: invalid_state”
- The sign-in took longer than 10 minutes, or finished in a different browser. Select the Bluesky tile again and complete it in the window that opens.
- “Failed to connect Bluesky: auth_failed”
- Bluesky returned an error during sign-in. Wait a few minutes and try again from the Bluesky tile.
- The card says Stopped working
- Bluesky has ended Posty’s sign-in. Select Reconnect and sign in again. Posts to this channel won’t go out until you do.
- “Upgrade to connect”
- The workspace has used every channel its plan includes. Starter connects up to 10; Growth and Accelerate have no limit. Disconnect a channel you no longer use, or change plan.
